首先beside是介詞，表示“在旁邊”besides的用法的空間意義。

　　比如: We stood beside the canyon.besides的用法我們站在峽谷旁邊。

　　而B(niǎo)esides也可以是介詞，但卻表示抽象的“除此之外（還有）”。

　　比如：

　　Besides the lecture there was a concert. 除besides的用法了講座，還舉行besides的用法了音樂(lè)會(huì)。

　　There are three other candidates besides yourself. 除了你自己，還另外有三個(gè)人選。

　　另外，besides還可以是副詞，也是“除此之外（還有）”的意思（主要用于列舉理由，不可以用于列舉具體事物）。

　　I am too tired to go, and besides, it is late. besides的用法我太累，不去了，何況時(shí)間也晚了。但是，besides前面如果有否定詞，“除此之外（再另加，但原先的仍保留）”與“排除在外不算”的兩種意思之間的區(qū)別在此就消失了（中文的“除此之外”也同樣有這樣兩種不同的含義）。

　　比如: nobody besides you and me除了你和我再也沒(méi)有別人。
